GHOST TOURSCORECARD
Methodology · Version 1 · November 2026

How we score a ghost tour

Two numbers, kept apart on purpose. The score says how good a tour is. The Fright Index says how scary it is. Nobody can pay to change either one.

  1. 62Tours foundEvery Savannah ghost tour Viator lists, minus the history and sightseeing tours tagged as ghost tours by mistake. Book-direct companies are added as we verify them.
  2. PendingFacts verifiedChecked against the operator's own pages, with the date shown.
  3. 39ScoredEnough evidence to score. The rest read "not enough data." Rescored once a year.
  4. PendingTaken by usTours we went on ourselves, marked "Tested by us."
The score

Five parts, 0 to 10

Fixed weights. Recent evidence counts more, and a tour with little evidence is pulled toward the Savannah average until more comes in.

The Fright Index

How scared will you be?

We rate how scared people actually get, not what the ad promises. Scary isn't better or worse, so it never changes a tour's score. A family wants a 1. A bachelorette party might want a 5.

  1. 1LightHistory and laughs. Fine for kids.
  2. 2EerieDark streets, good stories, goosebumps at most.
  3. 3SpookyExpect to jump once or twice.
  4. 4ScaryGenuinely frightened. Not for young kids.
  5. 5TerrifyingSome people want to leave.

What we never do

  1. 01Sell a scoreFeatured placements, when we offer them, are labeled and never touch a score or the order of a ranked list.
  2. 02Borrow starsWe never show another site's star ratings as ours.
  3. 03Guess a factIf an operator doesn't publish an age limit or an alcohol policy, the page says unknown.
  4. 04Score on thin dataWhen we don't have enough evidence for a part of the score, that part reads "not enough data."
